What $5 Can Do: Why the RenCen Pancake Breakfast Matters
A $5 pancake breakfast brings neighbors together while supporting programs and activities at Renaissance Center Nashville.
Five dollars doesn’t buy much these days.
A cup of coffee, maybe. A quick snack. Something small enough that you might spend it without thinking much about it.
But on Saturday, October 10, five dollars can get you a plate of pancakes at the Renaissance Center.
And it can help do something more.
More Than Breakfast
The RenCen Pancake Breakfast is certainly about pancakes. We would never suggest otherwise.
There’s something pretty great about gathering around a table on a Saturday morning with a plate in front of you, neighbors nearby and nowhere you particularly need to rush off to.
Add in a Silent Auction and the chance to browse the RenCen Thrift Shop, and there are plenty of reasons to come spend the morning with us.
But the Pancake Breakfast is also a fundraiser for the Renaissance Center. That means every person who walks through the door is doing more than joining us for breakfast. They’re supporting a place designed to help adults 60 and older continue learning, moving, creating, connecting and participating in the community around them.
And that makes a $5 ticket feel a little different.
What Happens After the Pancakes Are Gone?
Spend some time at the Renaissance Center and you might find people learning to use new technology, practicing yoga or Tai Chi, sitting down for a game of Mahjong, making something with their hands, watching a movie together, volunteering, learning about Nashville history or simply talking with someone they’re glad to see.
Some people come because they want to learn something.
Some come because they want to stay active.
Some are looking for people who share an interest.
And sometimes someone walks through the door simply because one thing on the calendar sounded interesting.
Those moments don't happen by accident. They happen because there is a place for them to happen.
Fundraisers like the Pancake Breakfast are one of the ways our community helps support the programs, activities and resources that make RenCen that place.
A Community Supporting Community
There’s something fitting about supporting a community center by gathering as a community.
Our Pancake Breakfast brings together RenCen participants, volunteers, friends, neighbors and people who may be walking through our doors for the very first time.
This year’s breakfast is sponsored by the West Nashville Kiwanis Club, another reminder that community organizations don't exist in isolation. They grow stronger when people and organizations choose to show up for one another.
Sometimes that support is big.
Sometimes it looks like volunteering your time.
Sometimes it means telling a friend about a program they might enjoy.
And sometimes it looks like buying a $5 pancake breakfast.
It all matters.
And Yes, There Will Be Pancakes
We can talk about community and supporting RenCen all day, but let's not lose sight of an important detail:
There will be pancakes.
Join us Saturday, October 10, from 7:00–11:00 AM for the Renaissance Center Pancake Breakfast.
Tickets are $5 and available at the door, and while you're here, you can check out the Silent Auction and shop the RenCen Thrift Shop.
Bring a friend. Bring your appetite. Bring someone who has never been to the Renaissance Center before.
Because five dollars may buy you breakfast.
But showing up can help make a whole lot more possible.
