Giving Back: Volunteer Opportunities for Adults 60+ at Renaissance Center Nashville

At the Renaissance Center we love opportunities to give back to the community we love.

At Renaissance Center Nashville, our mission goes beyond bringing people together—it’s about creating meaningful social impact, sparking purposeful engagement, and empowering adults 60+ to lead with their hearts. Two of our most inspiring, volunteer-led programs—Flower Power and The Community Closet—invite members to connect, contribute, and make a real difference in Greater Nashville.

Flower Power: Spreading Joy One Bouquet at a Time

Since launching in May 2025, Flower Power has been a labor of love. Participants come together weekly to arrange fresh bouquets, which are then delivered to local care organizations like Alive Hospice, Mary Queen of Angels Assisted Living, and the VA Tennessee Valley.  We are so excited to partner with Compost Nashville to keep this program going strong with the help of our members,

Why it matters:

  • Heartfelt impact: Volunteer arrangers get to see firsthand how a simple flower arrangement brightens someone’s day.

  • Creative wellness: Working with flowers supports mental health, reducing stress and fostering creativity.

  • Community connection: Each bouquet symbolizes the bonds between Renaissance Center and the broader Nashville community.

Flower Power is more than giving—it’s receiving. Volunteers report feelings of joy, inspiration, and fulfillment knowing they’re the reason someone smiles today.

The Community Closet: Sharing Warmth & Dignity

Our Community Closet operates much like a curated thrift shop—where donations of clothing, linens, and housewares to out Thrift Shop are thoughtfully distributed to neighbors in need.

Renaissance Center offers a unique uplifting volunteer chance for seniors:

  • Sort & support: Volunteer teams organize, categorize, and prepare donations.

  • Serve with dignity: Every item is handled with respect—fostering inclusion and confidence for recipients.

  • Team cohesion: Volunteers say it’s “fun and purposeful”—a new kind of senior social wellness through shared effort.

Volunteering = Wellness, Purpose & Connection

Studies show that older adults who volunteer regularly experience better mental health, lower risk of depression, and enhanced social fitness - all while staying active and engaged. Our programs bring these benefits to life, helping members:

  • Strengthening community bonds through purpose-driven action

  • Maintain independent living by staying physically and mentally active

  • Create intergenerational impact by aiding seniors and families in vulnerable situations

 Real Voices, Real Impact

“Arranging flowers for hospice patients connected me to something bigger. It reminds me I still have so much to offer.”

“Sorting clothes at the Community Closet is a joy—not work. I’m helping neighbors and making friends while doing it.”
